Congratulations - Heidi Farm Gruyere
The Champion Cheese Winner for the 2007 Sydney Specialist Cheese Show
Heidi Farm Gruyere has been awarded the coveted title of Champion Cheese at the 2007 Sydney Specialist Cheese Show!
It was a magical land of cheese on Saturday 26th May as judges at Sydney's Four Seasons Hotel announced the Sydney Champion Cheese Winner for 2007. Everywhere the judges looked, there were different cheeses bursting with flavour, ready to be sampled. The 10 categories, which included the classic Aged Cheddar to White and Blue Mould, Washed Rind, Fresh Curd and Ripe Brie, saw the judges bite their way through over 150 specialist cheeses.
Entered within the Semi-Hard Cooked Category, Heidi Farm Gruyere fought off tough competition. Heidi Farm Gruyere is a firm, full-flavoured textured cheese, with a brown red rind surface colour. It has a soft flavour in the mouth when it is young, which develops to a stronger full flavoured taste when matured. The ideal cheese for the cooler months of Autumn and Winter. As a cooking cheese it is perfect with French Onion Soup or the classic Toasted Cheese Sandwich and can also be enjoyed on your favourite cheese platter.
Chief Judge of the Sydney Specialist Cheese Show, Ian Roberton says: "Each year, I am blown away by the standard of Australian specialist cheeses. Without doubt, the bar has been raised again at the 2007 Sydney Specialist Cheese Awards. Australian cheesemakers, and Australian consumers for that matter, can be proud of the world class specialty cheeses coming out of this country."
Sydneysiders had the chance to taste these superb Australian cheeses for themselves on Sunday 27th May, in what could be termed a 'cheese lovers' paradise. With over 150 cheeses available for sampling, accompanied by Kurrajong Kitchen's famous Lavosh 'Breads Baked Crisp', plus premium wines from Mt Langi Ghiran and boutique beers from Gippsland's Grand Ridge Brewery, it was the perfect gastronomic extravaganza.
With cool jazz music as the backdrop, the visitors sampled all the cheeses on offer and had their say with the highly regarded People's Choice Award, which was awarded to Jindi Triple Cream.
A list of all winners follows.
